CEI deals with enough accidents to know that they can happen anytime, in any way. That’s why we’ve had a disaster recovery and business contingency plan in effect since 2003, and have been dedicated to protecting confidential data for even longer.

 

Seemless Service
One of the most crucial aspects of CEI’s service is that drivers and clients can reach us any day, at any time to report an accident or deal with a problem. Within four hours of a catastrophic event or massive system failure, CEI will be back on the phones. Critical applications and systems will be restored within 24 hours.

CEI performs daily offsite backups of all system files, and has an emergency backup call center through SunGard Recovery Services. In the event of an emergency, phone lines would be immediately transferred to the SunGard facility, and our representatives would relocate to continue taking calls there. The most recent archived system files would be restored at SunGard, allowing CEI to resume normal business quickly and with minimal interruption.

We Keep Your Information Safe
CEI processes a significant amount of proprietary information daily, including driver records and other client data. Keeping that data secure is not only part of our backup process, but it’s also part of our commitment to keeping that confidential information safe.

Our investments in technology and dedicated in-house IT team are always at work keeping sensitive information out of harm’s way. Our system is equipped with firewalls, virus scans and other safety precautions that reduce the risk of compromising our systems. In addition, robust system redundancy and a fire suppression system in our server rooms add further security against system failure and physical damage.

Our records are warehoused by Iron Mountain, a leading company in records management. Each day’s set of backup tapes is stored in fireproof containers and moved to their secure location, where they’re encrypted and password protected. This means that CEI – and only CEI – can retrieve the crucial, sensitive information.

 


 

Regular Updates and Testing
So far, CEI has never had to put our disaster recovery plan into use. Even so, we don’t ever let our guard down. With 70 key people on our disaster recovery team, we’re constantly checking and updating our procedures to make sure we can respond to a crisis with little to no interruption of service to our clients.

The disaster recovery team performs a test run every three months to ensure that all communications and system data transfer correctly and efficiently to our SunGard facility.  Our investments in technology, notably virtual and “blade” servers, have been integrated into our disaster recovery plan, making the process run even smoother than before.
