Commitment to Culture
CEI has always been a close-knit company where many people are friends outside of work and everyone is treated like family in the office. It was a way of doing business we didn’t want to lose as the company grew larger.
To maintain an atmosphere of friendship and closeness, CEI top management strongly supports work-place social activities that continue to foster the family-oriented culture which began with our original founders.
Today, the CEI family includes more than 200 people and our internal referral rate for new hires is more than 65 percent, the highest it’s ever been and well above industry standards. Clients recognize there is something very special about the CEI Experience: It’s what helps make us successful and why people enjoy doing business with us.

A small company with a big dream
In 1983, entrepreneurs Wayne Smolda, Claudia Smolda, and Terri Brigidi founded Collision Experts International. Based in a small office above an auto body shop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the three partners generated fleet repair business for the shop downstairs.
The vision was to manage corporate fleet accident claims across North America, using a coast-to-coast network of body shops. By 1986, Collision Experts International had grown from three to 10 employees as the company gained clients and offered more services. To avoid being perceived as just a collision repair business, the company name was changed to The CEI Group, Inc.
Growing and expanding
CEI started out by offering its services to sedan fleets, later we added some heavy-duty truck claims and then in 1993 began managing claims for the insurance industry. Over the past decade CEI has entered the risk and safety business with a line of DriverCare™ services targeted and both fleets and individuals.
In 2002 CEI started taking claims for government fleet clients and in 2004 we expanded our footprint to the European marketplace as CEI-Europe. Then in 2006 we began growing our heavy-duty truck fleet business.
Today, CEI manages accidents for over 600,000 vehicles in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico, and has more than 75,000 drivers using our fleet-risk services.
Far from the small room in Philadelphia where everything began, CEI now has it’s North American headquarters in the Bucks County Technology Park in Trevose, PA, field sales offices in Monroe, MI, Tulsa, OK and Pittsburgh, PA, and offices in Barcelona, Spain.
Cutting-edge technology
A touchstone of CEI’s success has been the company’s ongoing development of and investment in technology since the late 1990s.
In 1999, CEI launched ClaimsLink™, a web-based application that enables clients to view all their claims data and communicate with CEI online. Soon more applications and web-based services followed, including programs to support CEI’s line of DriverCare safety services. The investment paid off. CEI is able to offer better quality and more comprehensive services to all of our customers.
